Afzalpur

Afzalpur (Kannada: ಅಫ್ಜಲಪುರ) ( Devanagari अफ्जलपुर) is a panchayat town in Gulbarga district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is also the headquarters of the Afzalpur taluk.

Geography

Afzalpur is located at 17°12′N 76°21′E / 17.2°N 76.35°E / 17.2; 76.35.[1] It has an average elevation of 408 metres (1338 feet). The town is spread over an area of 3 km².[2]

Afzalpur Taluk borders Aland taluk of Gulbarga district to the north, Gulbarga taluk of Gulbarga district to the east, Jevargi taluk of Gulbarga district and Sindgi taluk of Bijapur district to the south, Indi Taluk of Bijapur district to the west and Akalkot Taluk of Solapur district of Maharashtra to the north-west.

Bhima and Amarja rivers flow through this taluk.

 Demographics

As of 2001[update] India census,[3] Afzalpur had a population of 19,114. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Afzalpur has an average literacy rate of 54%, lower than the national average of 59.5%; with 60% of the males and 40% of females literate. 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

 The Town Panchayat (TP) Afzalpur was constituted in 1996.It is Situated along Gulbarga-Bijapur State Highway at a Distance of 55KM form Gulbarga.It has a Population of 19,935 as per 2001 Census. The TP Afzalpur has 20 Wards and Equal Number of Conucillors.Afzalpur TP Stretches to an area of 6.25 Sq.Kms.The One of the Holiest Sri BHagyawanti Temple Situated at 14 Kms away from the town.

 Computerisation : Properties within Town Panchayat Afzalpur limits have been identified & details have been collected & Computerisation of records is under progress. Citizens can avail this facility to pay property tax shortly. Birth & Death records are available online from the year 1996. Citizens can make use of this facility to register & obtain Birth & Death Certificates.
